We finally have some news for users who are eagerly waiting to jailbreak their iPhone oriPod Touch on iOS 4.1.
Joshua Hill, also known as p0sixninja from the Chronic-Dev Team has just tweeted that greenpois0n, the jailbreaking tool that makes use of the SHAtter exploit will be released on October 10.
He announced the release date of greenpois0n on this Twitter page:
Things have progressed to the point where we don't expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AMI guess sunday will be a funday after all :-P
SHAtter is the bootrom exploit discovered by pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team.
A bootrom exploit is a low level exploit that can’t be fixed by Apple with a software update like it did with iOS 4.0.2 to patch thesecurity hole used by JailbreakMe.
Apple can only prevent jailbreaking, by releasing devices with a new bootrom that patches the exploit, but Apple won’t be able to stop users from jailbreaking devices with the older bootrom.
So greenpois0n which makes use of the SHAtter exploit will jailbreak all existing iDevices for life.
Update 1:
Joshua has clarified that greenpois0n will be released on October 10th, 10:10 am GMT, which is 5:00 am ET or 2:00 am PST.
Though Chronic Dev Team hasn't announced whether the jailbreak will be tethered or untethered, it looks like it will be an untethered jailbreak, which is great.
Update 2:
We've some bad news for older iPhone and iPod Touch users, it looks like greenpois0n, which uses the SHAtter exploit won't work on older devices such as iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G. It will work only on devices that have Apple's A4 processor so it will be compatible only with iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPad and probably even the new Apple TV.
We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve any further updates so stay tuned here
