SERIES 60 Nokia phones can be reformatted with a special three-stroke keystroke sequence on power-up. When turning the phone on, press and hold both these three keys: green/talk, 3 and * when powering up the phone. When formatting begins, release the keys.
It's also possible to reformat UIQ phones, such as my SonyEricsson P910i. Just after boot, when the phone waits for the PIN entry, enter 000. This puts the phone into the emergency dialing mode. Then use the jogdial and the keyboard to enter the following sequence:
